Why I joined the Socialist Party

Reading Time: < 1 minutes

I have always had an interest in social issues. Living a life where I ignore injustice has never been a viable option for me. And for a while I have been looking for like-minded people with the same passion and drive to fight for what is right.

In 2016 I attended my first ever rally, a Black Lives Matter solidarity rally in Melbourne. While there, I met members of the Socialist Party and bought a copy of the party’s magazine and some badges. But it wasn’t until I attended the Slut Walk rally in September that I considered joining the Socialist Party.

During a discussion with a party member it became clear that my political views aligned closely with socialist ideals. After that discussion, joining the Socialist Party seemed like a no-brainer.

I began attending educational sessions and Socialist Party events, and loved having the opportunity to be a part of a group that spoke openly about all the issues I care about.

A group that addresses ALL forms of social inequality, a group that wants to fight said inequality at the very roots. Before becoming involved in the Socialist Party, I had never found my way into something so proactive in the fight for justice.

I joined the Socialist Party because I refuse to let my voice fall on deaf ears. I refuse to turn a blind eye to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and class oppression. I feel a sense of pride in knowing that I have become a member of a party that aims to break down walls and unite the people… rather than building walls that divide us.

SOCIALIST ACTION NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!

The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare many of the problems with capitalism. The Socialist strives to explain the systemic causes of this crisis, and reports about the issues that are important to working people. We also help to organise struggles against the powers that be.

We don’t receive a cent from big business or governments. Our work is fully funded by our supporters. Even if half the people who read our website every month donated a few dollars each we would raise thousands to help our work!

We need organisations of struggle now more than ever, so if you support what we do please consider making a donation.

One-off or regular donations can be made securely HERE.
